The hacking to death of a young soldier on a street in Woolwich yesterday has brought a new low to the life of this country but perversely it has motivated a standing together of all of us, whether non believers, Muslim, Christain, Hindu, Jain or Jew into: we, the British, do not buckle in the face of such terrorism. Such a distortion of Islam now should fool no one...though the EDL will use it of course to stir trouble, but loonies like that aside, we all stand together united as a country against such brutality.

The lesson is surely to find ways of encouraging more integration among the communities which keep themselves too tightly hidden.
